New Artwork

I've always been fascinated by anatomy art. I went to the Musuem of Science and Industry a lot as a kid. I remember seeing that see-thru figure, Tam, in a graceful pose with hands outstretched and you could see everything inside her. I like that symbol. Kurt Cobain, who was also a great visual artist, used her with attached angel wings. She was ethereal and her guts were hanging out at the same time, not unlike most humans in love. This series which includes both hearts and angels is inspired by that image.

Throughout my wee art career I have vascilated between two styles. I'm either painting fairly realistically with acrylic paints or in a more outsider art style with oil pastels. I sometimes get criticized for being inconsistent. It's OK for musicians like Madonna to change with every album but why not painters? An artist like Picasso would never be successful in today's economy which encourages artists to stick with one thing. Actually, it's hard to say who is really making it in the art. Every artist I know has a day job and if they "just do art" it's because of a trust fund or married partner who brings in the bacon. Wanting monetary success in art is kind of like constantly being in love with someone who doesn't love you back. Now speaking of love, this series also deals with romance, the work at the top right hand corner is called Connected, and is symbolic of what it would be like to connect with your soulmate.

The work above in the left hand corner is called Heart Flourish no. 1. This is the first time I have experimented with collage. I used Modge Podge then painted over the collage with acrylic to look like sepia photographs.

At the top are Gold and Silver Heart, sadly I haven't come up with more creative names for those. Initially the heart design was considered something I was going to have tattooed but I haven't gotten around to that, maybe for my 35th b-day this November. Maybe.

The other work is sprouting blood drops is called Oppinionated, sort of a visual of the heart "venting" about the negative side of relationships.

I'm still not sure about the anatomy figures. Those are just my first three, maybe I'll get rolling. It's kind of like playing Frankenstein with all these cut out parts. I've been wanting to add a bit more spirituality to my work. I'm sort of a closeted spiritual person. I don't like talking about it because I don't want to turn into the lady in the all purple outside wearing gobs of healing crystals but privately I read books on chakras, believe in God, etc.
